I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 10 days ago. No surprise given my choices and heredity. I grew up around diabetics so it hasn't been a big shock or overly depressing. I know it is a controllable disease with which I can live a full life.
Still working to get the sugar under control and had a question. Can adding fiber to food affect the "carbohydrate equation"?
Example: A soup has 13g carbs and 1g fiber giving a net carb of 12. If I add a serving of Benefiber to the soup for 3g of extra fiber does that cause the net cabs to go down to 9 (13 - 1 - 3 = 9) or does it make the total carbs 16 then cancel itself out leaving the net carb at 12?
