I'm not into exercising right now. Part of it is I also have injuries to my left hip & knee that healed improperly and it makes it difficult to walk. Ordinarily I walk with a cane and with my dog for about 1/2 hr a day. What else can I do? A friend recommended I sign up at curves. Anyone else try this?

I haven't tried curves but I have tried Mark Patrick's program. I had loose my weight with the help of it. Their weight loss programs are designed to help eliminate the behaviors that are making people overweight. I have used their Cds and all. For more info visit my signature.

I think Curves is an excellent choice for someone who is just atarting to exercise, or returning after a long time off. The beauty of it is that you work at your own level, and you can skip any station that is too difficult for you with your various injuries. The people who work there are helpful and supportive, and so are the other members.

Working on the machines regularly will help you build up your muscles, which will make walking easier and also help you with your blood sugar control.

If you are already fit, or have worked out at a regular gym or fitness center in the past, you may find Curves doesn't give you enough of a challenge. But they usually will give you a free week to try it out, so you have nothhing to lose. Their monthly charge is very reasonable too. I no longer belong there, because fortunately I have progressed to a higher level, but I know plenty of people who have belonged for years and it works well for them.

I enrolled at Curves several months ago and am very pleased with the program. I have back and knee problems which interfere with my ability to exercise. The staff at Curves are trained to work with you and offer alternate exercises for any machines that you cannot use due to your physical issues. Staff are warm and friendly, very supportive;very good about customizing the program to fit your needs. It is a ladies only program with machines designed for women's bodies, not mens bodies. The women who go there are a broad variety of typical woman everywhere. They are not all the slim, trim, toned 20-somethings that you find at the local gyms, so average women do not feel uncomfortable going. They have a free weight loss program for those interested. (They do sell special diet shake powders and supplements, but they are just an option in the weight loss program, not some thing that you must use in the program.)
Right now but only until then end of the month (10/31) tomorrow!!, my Curves is offering a Breast Cancer Awareness special where you can join with no enrollment fee (I think this is usually about $200). I don't know if that is a national offer or just here. Check on that where you are. You have to show that you have had a mammogram recently (I think within the past year) in order to get this deal. If they have this in your area, I'd suggest you get there and enroll now. It would only cost you the monthly fee to try the program to see if it is for you. They will explain it all and show you how each of the machines works before you enroll.
