Wet Behind The Ears
Wet Behind The Ears

Hi all,

I was just diagnosed with pre diabetes (111) so I'm taking action on all fronts. I've upped my exercise levels and am restricting refined carbs and high glycemic load foods.

As I was surfing around the internet I found (along with this forum) a page hawking a supplement called Diab-X (http://www.provenresultshealth.com/diabx/)

Has anyone tried this? Is it legit, or snake oil?

Hi, Mame! Good for you on your exercise and healthier eating! The only thing I know that really works is exercise and heart-healthy food in small enough portions. No side effects, except good ones. If there was anything else as good and dependable, we would've heard about it on the news. I'd suggest asking your doc for a referral to a Registered Dietician (RD) for a personalized meal plan, rather than just going with do-it-yourself, and also a prescription for a blood sugar meter, if he hasn't already done these things to give you a good foundation. The rest is up to you.

I am with Nan on this one, Exercise and Healthy eating are the key to successful control of Type II diabetes.

With that being said that does not mean that various supplements cannot have a postive effect on Diabetes. But I would do your research and consult with your doctor on any homopathic type supplement. Many of these can be picked up at the local health food store much cheaper then a super cocktail sold on the internet.

My exercise is Long Distance running, I run on Average 40 - 55K per week. Nothing like a 20K run to help keep the blood sugar down.

I had a 1/2 cup of chocolate milk yesterday for the first time in 1.5 years, my BS was 3.2 after 20K despite gatorade and running Jellie bellies which are basically pure sugar.

To give you an idea of exercise, I got up with 4.2BS and had 1 apple and 1 yougurt drink for a total of about 25Grams of carbs or approx 2 carb choices, During my run I consumed about another 1 carb.

Now I have to admit I did not plan right as my blood sugar was 3.2 at the end of the run. This was caused by the fact that my pace was faster then the previous weeks long run. What this means is that I am going to have add another carb before running or another carb about 30 - 45 minutes in.

After I ran my blood sugar through out the day was hi 3's and low 4's. So you can see the effect of running lasted the whole day and into this morning when I woke up with a 3.8 blood sugar.

This proves that exercise is the key to keeping your blood sugar low. I don't recmommend running 12+ miles on a normal basis, but it does show how exercise effects the system very effectively.

Thanks for the advice, guys.

My MD hasn't suggested a glucose monitor. We're redoing all the bloodtests in December - by which time he wants me to have lost 12 pounds.

Harry - I sure wish I could run but a neuroma in my foot prevents that. I'm even limited as to how far I can walk. This is frustrating as heck but one has to deal.

As of yet I haven't been able to find out the ingredients in the Diab-X stuff which is why I wondered if anyone had tried it.

I am lucky to be able to run. Lucky to be so healthy when so many others are having problems. Believe me, I practice what i preach for healthy eating and exercise.

Most in the run club will tell you how outspoken I am on Diabetes and how easy Type II can be prevented. However todays lifestyle makes it much to easy to sit around doing nothing all day.

As for alternatives, you might want to consult a sports clinic or physiotherapist who may be able to suggest alternative exercises. Even lifting light weights or jogging in a swimming pool would be a benefit.

exercise of any sort is cruicial to the control of diabetes.

Harry

I totally agree about the exercise bit.

Twice a week I have a personal trainer (addicting, that is). Other days I either do a half hour on the treadmill or swim. One day a week off.

They say that if the benefits of exercise came in a pill everybody on the planet would want to take it.

Thanks to all.

In this last year I've lost 28 pounds. The result of this is that me blood sugar level now hovers around 86.

I guess I've licked the diabetes thing.

I've been taking it for 3 months and been losing weight. Even when I duck out and eat bad I don't seem to gain weight. (I've had a few stressful weeks transitioning jobs and starbucks drinks seem to be my downfall) I've been sparatic about exercising ... great one week.... nothing the next... used to be good about it. I was diagnosed prediabetic after I had my second son my weight has been up and down for 5 years since then ... and I have not been great about what I've been eating (not as good as you that is!) and not exercising regularily (can't seem to stay on a plan consistently.... let me know if anyone has any advice there).... Anyway I have not been getting the super tiredness and stuff that I was getting from sugar problems before and I'm down 4 sizes in my clothes.... I feel a ton better so even though I haven't been hitting all the marks in dieting an exercising the diab-x is keeping me on the right track. This has been a very stressful time and I'm not blowing up like a balloon and getting down in the dumps about that on top of everything else. I have to be honest... I've been a diet pill junkie... I've tried them all.... got buzzed off of a ton of them and all shakey... this is the only one that there is none of that.... You are suppose to take it 2 hours - 30 minutes before meals.... I've been running like a chicken with my head cut off so If I forget it in the am sometimes and I've been taking it at night before I go to bed and that still seems to work fine...I get the 3 month supply because it's cheaper...and the books are great... they send you 3 ebooks... haven't gotten to read them all but I read the diabetes section in one of them and I really got a good understanding of what was going on.... also I read about how bad caffine really is ... Hope that helps ... let me know if you have any questions!
