My Little Girl was diagnosed on June 4th of this year, she is 14. WE NOW HATE THE HOLIDAYS!! We are having such a hard time since it is The Holidays! We used to be able to make Christmas Cookies and eat all the trimmings but now everything has changed!! It is just not fair and I know I have to be strong for her but it is so hard!!! I wish I could have this for her so she could be happy again!! I could use all of your input and help!
I feel what you are saying. I was just diagnosed 3 weeks ago, right in time for my Christmas baking to start. I'm still doing some but going to be looking for sugar free/diabetic friendly recipes. We can still enjoy the treats of the holidays just in a modified way. I'm 40 yrs old having to learn how to do Christmas without my favourite treats. Not easy but I'll do it. KEEP your head up. I will get easier. Before you know it, you won't even miss them. Do try to look for alternate recipes. Good LUck!
Thank you both so much for your support and I am looking into some recipes and I did try to make some cookies with Splenda but they did not have any sweet to them at all!! I will keep looking though. Thank you both again. Julia Ramirez Rising Star Director @ ViSalus Sciences http://teamjulia.bodybyvi.com email@example.com (940)748-2552
I hear you! So sorry your little girl has to have this disease in her life. I use to hate the holidays, too, right after diagnosis. But you learn to roll with it after while. I still bake, but I use Splenda. Baking cookies and making candy was a tradition at our house when my girls were still home. There are many web sites with good recipes for the holidays. Experiment with a few. I've found some good ones and found others I've tossed in the garbage. LOL Just do a Google search for diabetic recipes. Good luck to you and your daughter. Learn all you can and be supportive for her.
My husband was recently diagnosed as type 2 (I'm type 1), so that has helped as now we both read labels and watch our diets. And the kids are all grown and gone.
