My name is Jake and I’m 22. Very soon I will be marrying a beautiful red headed girl who has type one diabetes. She will be going to grad school after this next year and I will be supporting the both of us. I have no insurance myself, being only 22, and just out of college. I know that medicade is an option. I also have the very sad option of waiting another four years so she can stay on her fathers insurance (being a full time student) and I can have that time to make a bit more and put it into savings. What I’m really asking is what options do I have to help the both of us stay healthy. Are there other programs that I could apply for, and or government help?

Jake,

This isn't easy for you is it? My youngest is 22 as well and I know how hard it is for him to listen to my advise.

It is hard for you but I think you hit on the right way to go. Let her stay on her father's insurance. If as a graduate, you start your career, and you earn enough or you get insurance from your employer, you can always change things then, before she graduates.

I am not talking down to you when I say if it is love, real love then you can wait 4 short years.

I hope this helps.
